EligibleHusbando:
"In this moment, I am euphoric. Not because of any phony god s blessing. But because, I am enlightened by my intelligence." Thoughts on this quote by Neil DeGrasse Tyson?

ColorStorm:
I doubt he was euphoric, and if he was I doubt even more that he was euphoric because he was 'enlightened' by his intelligence, so the statement is disingenuous. And manipulative, since the unreality of it makes its intended effect on others unwarranted.

Also, just the usual thoughts that people who deny the existence of God typically do it because they dislike religious notions of God.. as if religions have or should have a monopoly on what 'God' means. They simply don't entertain any alternative notions of God because their minds are saturated by pop ideology.

Though the scientistic types would probably dismiss any possible notion of God, even if they're exposed to non-religious viewpoints on who God is, just because the concept is not scientific and not "falsifiable." But not being falsifiable doesn't mean the idea is meaningless, and not being scientific doesn't mean it's impossible to know. There are other ways of knowing things than science, and God's existence or nonexistence could affect (or have implications regarding) observable reality/experience in ways that are real but not empirically frameable.

Edit: This quote wasn't actually by Neil DeGrasse Tyson.
